Reading at SEK-CAP Head Start

In observance of Kansas Reads to Preschoolers Week, November 16-22, 2008, SEK-CAP Head Start has invited “guest readers” into their classrooms. The book being read this year is Bear Feels Sick, which was chosen by the State Library of Kansas & the Kansas Center for the Book. Each enrolled Head Start child will receive a copy of the book to add to their home library.
Featured in the photos below you will see Tammie Benham, Assistant Director of Kansas Parent Information Resource Center, reading to children in the Riverton and Galena classrooms.

Additional “guest readers” were sought from the medical profession to read because the book deals with wellness. Volunteers included a variety of professionals from across southeast Kansas.

Stanton County Reaches Out to Preschoolers

Stanton County Public Library reached approximately 120 children During KS Reads To Preschoolers Week!
Stanton County Public Library read to daycares, preschools, Pre K and Kindergarteners during Kansas Reads to Preschoolers week. Each child received a copy of the book "Bear Feels Sick" by Karma Wilson and a small stuffed teddy bear.
The local school nurse and medical technician from a local clinic were also on hand to show the children the correct way to wash their hands & the importance of coughing into their sleeves. Glitter played a huge roll in the activities and the children were amazed at the results!
