A Cozy Quilt for Bear in Hiawatha

The Morrill Public Library hosted four special Storytimes during Kansas Reads to Preschoolers week. The children who attended colored quilt blocks to make a cozy quilt for Bear on a giant bulletin display. The Library also distributed copies of Bear Feels Sick to the hospital, local clinics and preschools, and city officials to encourage people to read this book and others to children.

Bear Feels Sick Story time at Liberal
KS Reads at the Olathe Public Library
It was a busy week in Olathe! Library staff, with help from community volunteers, were able to visit 37 daycares and preschools in Olathe. Between preschool visits and regular storytimes, we read Bear Feels Sick to more than 1,400 children! Children who heard the book at their preschool were excited to receive a special heart shaped "Kansas Kids Read" sticker. Library patrons were also invited to make get well cards for bear at both Olathe libraries, and the cards are currently on display for all to see.

Tuck That Bear in Bed!
Jeannie Kendall at Osage City Library has shared a fun project on the Northeast Kansas Library System homepage. Go to www.nekls.org to view the blog post and print out her reproducible color-and-cut pages.
Include Your Health Dept
The Health Department in Lawrence is sending someone to talk to the kids at all of our preschool storytimes about Bear Feels Sick. They will talk about the importance of washing hands and other health tips. The also will do a germy hands demonstation under ultra-violet light. All the germs will show up and when they wash their hands, the germs are gone.
They are coming free of charge, so it would be something any library could include.
